Keegan Angerer Started working with the CAKE CISMA in December providing Hemlock Woolly Adelgid surveys. Since April he has adapted to fill the role of trails coordinator at the ACD. Keegan has a bachelor’s degree in Natural Resource Management with a minor in biology. His time working in the field has taken him throughout the western hemisphere. As a “Science Divemaster” he led underwater survey crews in the Coral reefs of Utila, in Honduras. There he constructed 3-D models of Coral reef complexity, performed Stereo-video surveys, and performed fish, coral and invertebrate biodiversity surveys. He has done other SCUBA based work in Cuba. Before working with the CAKE CISMA he was in Nevada and Northern California studying desert ecology and analyzing rangeland health through the Bureau of Land Management Assessment, Inventory, and monitoring program.

Now Keegan’s primary responsibilities involve maintaining and improving Antrim Counties trail systems. In partnership with the Friends of Glacial Hills and the Antrim Creek Natural Area Commission he provides regular maintenance to these amazing locations. Cutting downed trees, repairing and stabilizing trail beds, and mowing are some of his responsibilities. Recent projects include a new boardwalk at Mohrmann Natural Area in Bellaire. If you hike any of Antrim Counties many trails you may see him out there. Feel free to say hi!

Keegan also has received his Storm Water Operator and Soil Erosion and Sedimentation Control certifications and assists Heidi with site inspections. He encourages the use of native vegetation and natural shorelines. Our lakes up north are some of our most precious natural resources, and they are worth protecting.

Keegan loves the conversations with the various professionals and volunteers in the field, everyone has unique knowledge, and cooperation and interaction allow us to learn a lot about the natural world from each other. In his free time Keegan enjoys exploration of the outdoors in all ways. Backpacking in the Upper Peninsula, and SCUBA diving or free diving anywhere he can are some of his favorite activities.
