Growing up in rural Northeast Michigan in a town called Hubbard Lake, Lauren has always had a strong passion for the outdoors, protecting our state's natural resources, and for agriculture. Today she serves Antrim and Grand Traverse Counties as the Michigan Agriculture Environmental Assurance Program (MAEAP) Technician.
Lauren received her bachelor's degree in environmental science from the University of Michigan. After graduating, she interned at the Grand Traverse Conservation district as a parklands technician and fell in love with the Northwest Michigan region. After leaving the district Lauren serviced in AmeriCorps before returning to the University of Michigan's School of Natural Resources and Environment for her Master of Science degree in conservation ecology with a specialization in aquatic ecosystems. During the summer months, Lauren worked with the Grand Traverse Regional Land conservancy as a stewardship technician for two seasons and also worked on her master's project of developing the first draft of the Elk River Chain of Lakes Watershed Management Plan for Tip of the Mitt Watershed Council. After wrapping up her graduate degree, she worked at Alcona Community High School as the College and Career Readiness Program Coordinator before moving back to Traverse City in 2017 to work with the district. In her free time, Lauren enjoys backpacking, hiking, fishing, hunting, riding horses, playing guitar, reading, cooking, and anything and everything that has to do with water. You'll always find her German Shepherd, Mila, tagging along on all her adventures. |
