Commonly Asked Questions

What trees should I plant?

Read more about that here.

What will the trees look like when I get them?

Trees through the annual tree sale come bareroot, meaning that there is no soil on the roots.  You will pick up a package with your trees, and the roots will be covered in moist shredded paper.  The trees are not potted, and small, anywhere from 4 inches to 2 ft. (see sizes for each tree when ordering).

Do I need a trailer or large truck to pick up my order?

No.  For most people, you will be able to carry your package of trees in your hands and place in the trunk of your car.

What does S, T, 2-0, 2-1, and 2-2 mean?

S: Seedling
    2-0:
T: Transplant
2-1: 2 years in seed bed and 1 year in transplant bed
2-2: 2 years in seed bed and 2 years in transplant bed

How do I take care of my trees after I pick them up?

Transport your seedlings in your trunk to protect them from direct sun and wind, which can dry them out.  Trees can be stored for short periods of time (1-5 days) if they are stored in cool temperatures (33°F - 45°F)  and kept moist (wrap wet paper around the roots, but do not submerge roots in a bucket of water).
